Why the Bridge to Zion Crowdfunding Model Works (Nov.12, 2015)

by Princella Smith

Crowdfunding started in 2009 with Kickstarter.com, and since that time has become a $15 billion per year industry. It is projected to be a $100+ billion per year market five years from now.

Crowdfuding is a form of alternative finance, which uses small amounts of capital from a large number of individuals to finance a new project or business venture. It is by definition, “the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet.”

Crowdfunding makes use of the easy accessibility of vast networks of friends, family and colleagues through social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, to get the word out about a new project or business and attract investors.

Project creators can create a profile typically containing a short video, an introduction to their project, a list of rewards per donation, and some images to elaborate. The idea is to create a compelling message that readers will be drawn towards. In this manner, crowdfunding also has the potential to increase entrepreneurship by expanding the pool of investors from whom funds can be raised beyond the traditional circle of owners, relatives and venture capitalists.

The crowdfunding model has been coined by many as “the future of fundraising.” The Bridge to Zion team has adopted this method as the answer to dismantling the Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS) movement as it redirects more funding toward Israel and projects that benefit the Nation of Israel.

At Bridge to Zion, we believe, without question, that crowdfunding is the primary fundraising vehicle for organizations like Campus Maccabees, Christians United For Israel (CUFI) and all forward-looking, future-driven, pro-Israel organizations, because crowdfunding is the preferred communication format for those of the Millennial generation when being approached for financial contributions. Further, this method is rapidly gaining in popularity with other generations, as well.

We have been working on the Bridge to Zion concept for several months. It is now launched it, and being implemented. The site can be translated to 90+ languages and is equipped to accept contributions from anywhere in the world, with all the funds going directly to the source for those who need it most.

We feel that this technology has the power to network and transform the pro-Israel Church, as well as pro-Israel organizations worldwide, into a global force that can be multiplied many times over to create lasting change in the Nation of Israel.

Bridge to Zion Supports Israel (Sept. 21, 2015)

by Princella Smith

It is our hope at Bridge to Zion, to not only serve as a literal bridge to the Nation of Israel for people who support the country, but to also encourage the economic rewards of entrepreneurship.

Bridge to Zion is a direct response to the Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS) movement which is encouraging individuals, corporations, and organizations to discontinue any economic collaboration with the Nation of Israel.

The aim of the BDS movement is to sabotage Israel’s economy, but at Bridge to Zion we have a plan to combat BDS by equipping thousands of generous non-profit and for-profit pro-Israel projects, all sustaining themselves on this common platform—projects that collectively grow through this effort into a multi-billion-dollar entity—all supporting the Nation of Israel.

Can you imagine a worldwide multi-billion-dollar operation supporting the Nation of Israel?

I believe that all people who have a unique desire to support Israel on a deeper level eventually have their own individual “burning bush” moment.

In the story of Moses, it was at a burning bush in the middle of a desert where God spoke to him and revealed his destiny. Moses was to return to Egypt and lead his people out of captivity to “The Promised Land” we now know as the Land of Israel.

Israel supporters who stand with the nation due to divine inspiration understand that their longing is more than just an affinity for the culture, or a political stance that they have chosen. It is a deep understanding of the direction of their destiny. They have experienced the presence of God and His impartation of a direct path for their lives.

To these supporters, I say, “I am with you.” Like the meaning of Moses’ name, we were all “drawn out” to embark on this trail together. Get your hiking boots on. This is going to be an amazing journey!

Social Entrepreneurship: Platform for Common Ground (Sept.16, 2015)

by Princella Smith

Ken Krogue is the co-founder of InsideSales.com. He was a longtime Republican, and his partner, Dave Elkington, was a longtime Democrat. Ken wrote an article about entrepreneurship published in Forbes.com on September 11, 2012. This article honored those who lost their lives on the same day 11 years earlier. He stated that it was one of the most important pieces ever written.

In the article, Ken declared that he "votes entrepreneur" — not Democrat or Republican — and that both he and Dave had "abdicated our [partisan] roots."

He also wrote: "True entrepreneurs are the statesmen and stateswomen of business. They are owners. One hundred years ago Americans were 90% owners. They owned farms and ranches and shops. Now we are 90% employees."

Bridge to Zion is not about American partisan politics, and this blog post isn’t either. What is fascinating about Krogue’s and Elkington’s story is that in the midst of something as strident as the American political two-party-dominated climate, the common thread of entrepreneurship and job creation pulled them together for a purpose greater than themselves.

The efforts of Bridge to Zion have also pulled together several entities for a purpose greater than themselves. Bridge to Zion is functioning as a direct response to the Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS) movement which encourages individuals, corporations, and organizations to discontinue any economic collaboration with the State of Israel.

Those who are tuned into international events understand that the BDS movement is deeply rooted in anti-Semitism, and has targeted the world’s lone Jewish nation. Anti-Semitism is certainly not a new concept, and has existed since the descendants of Jacob found themselves captive under the harsh rule of an insecure Egyptian pharaoh who had become fearful of how large the Jewish population had become.

Enter, "social entrepreneurship." Social entrepreneurship means recognizing a social problem and applying an entrepreneurial model to create an organization whose ultimate goal is not solely generating profit, but also solving a social problem.

Ashoka is a global organization that identifies and invests in leading social entrepreneurs. It provides the best definition of social entrepreneurs: "Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change... Social entrepreneurs often seem to be possessed by their ideas, committing their lives to changing the direction of their field. They are both visionaries and ultimate realists, concerned with the practical implementation of their vision above all else… There is nothing as powerful as a new idea in the hands of a first-class entrepreneur."

The excitement surrounding Bridge to Zion is that our model is sustainable. We are spurring economic growth through innovation with practical and measurable solutions to one of the world’s most pressing problems. It is not solely charitable. It’s a platform encouraging individual investment via each individual financial contribution. The special projects featured on the crowdsourcing platform will provide a practical return on these investments such as job creation, as well as supporting benevolent efforts of aid to orphans and Holocaust survivors.

This platform of social entrepreneurship upholds the guiding principles that freedom is universal; each human life is precious; to whom much is given, much is required; and the marketplace is the best way to allocate resources.

Many of the world's social ills can be solved with a capitalistic and market-based solution. At Bridge to Zion, we have a solution to the social ill of anti-Semitism, but it will only be effective when like-minds bring all hands on deck to a common platform.

By supporting, partnering with, and investing in both nonprofit and for-profit entities, Bridge to Zion is working to leverage an entrepreneurial spirit, enabling people, communities and businesses to thrive and prosper—not just in Israel—but within the organizations who have chosen not to boycott Israel.

Everyone wins!

Bridge to Zion Stands Strong with Israel (August 25, 2015)

by Jeris Cribbs

Bridge to Zion, U.S. Director of Operations

BTZ exists to help curb the rising tide of anti-Semitism throughout the world.

Last summer I wrote a blog regarding the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement against the Nation of Israel, and Church’s role in the midst of it. Now, nearly a year later, we are reading daily reports of churches, university campuses, businesses, and nations who are continuing to walk out on Israel in support of BDS. The momentum is thunderous… with the ultimate goal to isolate the tiny Jewish nation of Israel.

In this era of global turmoil, Bridge to Zion arrives on the scene with a counter-boycott mandate to push back the BDS campaign around the globe AND exponentially strengthen the economic and social growth of the nation of Israel.

At Bridge to Zion, we base our support for Israel on biblical principles, fair trade, and against the discrimination of any nation based on race or religion—NOT on politics.

As the BDS campaign continues to gather momentum around the world, we have been busy in Israel meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, members of the Knesset, and the president of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem regarding the direction of Bridge to Zion, i.e. who we are and what our agenda is.

We are pleased to report that the Bridge to Zion project has been wholeheartedly welcomed with open arms, and we have received pledges of support for this cutting edge, pro-Israel, crowdfunding platform.

The success of these meetings has instilled a sense of optimism in our team—a diverse group of individuals who have seen the strategic value of countering BDS with projects focused on Israel’s economic growth and the well-being of her people.

We know that you understand the impact each of the Bridge to Zion projects will make, and that you will continue to strengthen the nation of Israel through your support!
